God's Way Of Blessing
Margaret Seaward

(She's 81 years old.)

God's ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.
God's promise is that He will open the windows of heaven and will pour out a blessing so great, there won't be room enough to contain it.

The windows of heaven can be opened in two ways:
- in Judgement, as in the 40-day flood (Genesis).
- in Blessing.

Those windows are huge (if they can pour rain for 40 days, imagine).
In Deuteronomy 30: 15 onwards, he says life and death, blessing and cursing, go together. CHOOSE life.
It doesn't change the fact that God loves us. It's we who make the choice.

Malachi 3: 8 onwards...

Note: There are Tithes and Offerings. Today we're talking about Tithing.
Tithing is the way of God's blessing.

Generally, we're told not to test God but this is one place where God challenges us to test Him!
According to Biblical teaching, the tithe is one-tenth of our income.

The concept of reserving a portion for God started with God Himself:
- one tree in the Garden not to be touched by Man
- one day out of seven reserved for rest

Psalm 100:3 - Know ye that the Lord, He is God.

Some may object that tithing is under the Law, but it's not true, it started way before the Law was given.
We tithe because we're acknowledging that God is the Creator and everything belongs to Him.

Psalm 50: 10

All the resources we enjoy are merely on loan to us. They all belong to God. And all living creatures belong to Him too.
Don't we pay taxes to our government?

In the same way, God has the right to ask for the first tenth of our income.
We're only recognising God's rights when we tithe.

In Old Testament times, when one side wins a war, all the spoils of war belong to them. Melchizedek blessed Abraham, reminding him that he owed his existence to God. He owed his victory to God. And Abraham tithed 10 percent of his spoils to Melchizedek as Melchizedek represented God.

Let's look at Jacob. God revealed Himself to Jacob in a dream. Unless God reveals Himself to us, we can never see Him. And God made great promises to Jacob. Jacob's response was, "Wow, I'd better accept this. I'd better make Him my God." Have we? And Jacob also committed to God - "And of all You give me, I'll surely give you a tenth." It is to honour the Lord.

Now we may ask: If God owns everything, why do I have to give Him anything? It's a matter of honouring Him. Not that He needs it.
He wants it so that He can pour a blessing out on us!

And not the leftovers, but the firstfruits. And not the net, but the gross.
The first batches of fruits are the best. That's why they are given to God.

God said, "Give and it shall be given unto you." He challenges us to test Him in this matter. His blessings come on us when we tithe, in every way.
The Word says, "Tithe our increase." Not our "salary". Even if we get angpows at Chinese New Year, we should tithe. Even retirees can tithe if they receive money from their children!

9 tenths with the blessing of God will go further than 10 tenths that are cursed.
We cannot outgive God.

Don't be afraid to tithe.

Results of tithing =

  • Blessings
  • Prosperity
  • Protection

God has His way of protecting His people when they tithe.
Where do we tithe? Can we give it anywhere we want?

No, the Word says bring it into God's storehouse, ie, the church we belong to. We tithe where we get our spiritual feeding, care, teaching. If we want to give someone else, give it as an offering but the tithe must first go to God's storehouse.

Choose LIFE. Choose God's blessings.
